We went to Military Hospital 175 and found N. lying bewildered on the bed. Looking at her young face and small body, we really couldn’t imagine how hard she had worked to support a whole family. Despite all her efforts, she was now bedridden due to a traumatic brain injury and a broken collarbone.
Diep T.L.N. (2003) is the breadwinner for a small poor family in the working-class area of District 6. She works alone to support her elderly parents, but unfortunately she was recently hospitalized due to an injury while delivering food. Because her family is poor, N. only studied until grade 3 or 4 before following her family to make a living. When she was a little older, she worked as a waiter for restaurants. N.’s father is currently a street vendor, earning only 20,000-30,000 VND per day. Her mother is unemployed. Her younger brother has been away from home for 3 years. Her family has been searching for him but in vain. After many years of saving, N. quit her job at the restaurant and bought a new motorbike with the hope that working as a food delivery driver would earn a little extra to take care of her parents.
On July 27, 2024, N. was unfortunately hit while delivering goods. The driver who hit her left immediately afterwards. She was taken to the emergency room and admitted to Military Hospital 175 with the diagnosis of mild traumatic brain injury, fracture of 1/3 of the left clavicle and bleeding under the temple. Currently, N. has had surgery on the clavicle and is being monitored at Department B1.A. She is recovering well and is expected to be discharged in the next 3-4 days. After being discharged, she will need to stay in one place for at least half a month for her body to stabilize.
According to the hospital’s Social Work Department, after applying health insurance, N.’s hospital bill was 20 million VND. Her family borrowed 10 million VND, but as of August 6, 2024, she still owed 10 million VND and was unable to pay. Given N.’s situation, the Lotus Charity Foundation hopes that benefactors will join in supporting N. with the amount of 12,000,000 VND (10 million for hospital fees and 2 million for compensation). Hopefully N. and her family can overcome this difficult time.
